Big Second and Third Quarters Key #18 Notre Dame Win over #19 Drexel

Philadelphia – Drexel men's lacrosse lost to Notre Dame, 16-5, in a non-conference game at Vidas Field. The Fighting Irish outscored the Dragons, 10-0, in the middle two periods as they pulled away for the victory. With the loss No. 18 Drexel dropped to 4-2 while the 19th-ranked Irish improved to 3-2.
The Dragons opened the scoring as Andrew Chapman took a perfect Colin Ambler pass in front of the net and scored to put Drexel ahead, 1-0. Notre Dame answered with a man-up goal, one of six on the day for the Irish, but Ambler would give Drexel the lead when he scooped up a rebound and beat goalie Joey Kemp for the final goal of the first period. The Irish fought back as they tallied four times in the second period including just six seconds after the quarter's opening face-off. The third quarter was more of the same as Notre Dame went on to win, 16-5.
Notre Dame's Ryan Hoff scored seven goals while Ambler paced Drexel with two goals. The Dragons were whistled for a season-high 10 penalties in the game while the Irish were only called for five. Notre Dame out shot Drexel, 39-31, though the Dragons won 13 of the game's 23 face-offs.
Bruce Bickford made 11 saves in the cage for the Dragons while Kemp stopped 12 for the Irish.
The Dragons host No. 4 Albany at Vidas Field on Saturday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m.
